Permissions explained
Microphone, Speech Recognition, HealthKit, Notifications, Calendar — what each permission unlocks and why Cairn never sends any of it off-device.
What each permission is for
The microphone records; speech recognition turns the recording into text. Health gives entries their heart-rate and HRV context, the calendar adds how meeting-dense the surrounding hours were, and notifications deliver pattern alerts and reminders.
All of them are optional
Cairn works without Health, calendar and notifications — you lose the context those provide, not the journal. Only the microphone is genuinely required, because without it there is nothing to record.
Changing your mind later
Every permission can be granted or withdrawn afterwards in Settings, both inside Cairn and in the iOS Settings app. iOS hides permissions you have never been asked for, so if a switch is missing, open the matching screen in Cairn once and it will appear.
